James Russo’s take on a classic American Stout combines bold and roasty flavours with a swift resiny hit…and it’s just in time for winter.
Brewed with pale, caramel, and dark malts, it pours inky with a tan head of foam. The 34/70 lager yeast out of Weihenstephan, Germany, offers fruity esters and a lean chassis. There’s Black IPA cues here, for sure.
Expect aromas of ristretto coffee with flickers of citrus and pine. To drink, it’s full-bodied, with a twirling blend of bitter chocolate, molasses, and (ever characterful) Centennial hops.
Nice work, Russo.
