It might not be an official birthday beer, but our OG Pale Ale scores a deserved spot in Pirate Life’s hall of fame. West Coast by nature, it put us on the map in 2015, with its rusty hue and aggressive hoppy kick. It wasn’t a beer that Australia asked for, but it was one we received, unapologetically so, in a (now iconic) cobalt blue tin.
Lots of people talk about the first time they tried this beer, many from the taps at 89 South Road. Its electric hum - a fine balance between grace and mayhem. A taste of something new and wickedly bold. Local, unpasteurised ales weren’t common back then, especially ones bulging with Cascade and Mosaic hops.
When PL moved to Port Adelaide in 2018, we were temporarily forced back to the drawing board. New kit, new specifications, and a new mindset required to keep Pale Ale on point. It was tough reconfiguring a recipe we knew so well, but in the end, we landed on solid ground.
This rendition takes us back to the early days. To showroom hangs, pork crackling, and beer pong. A tasteful reminder that through determination and grit, you’re never too far from what makes you great. This beer will always be the stake in the ground, the barometer by which we measure ourselves, and (much like the bitchin’ batches of old) we’re stoked to share it with you.
Cheers,
PLB Crew.
